Tai Po: Project 5+N: A Super Mixed Land Use Design

Authors. LAM Kai Chun,  MAK Wing Lok, YEUNG Kwan Pui

There are four sports centres in the north of Tai Po. There are lack of sports centres in the south, and volleyball and basketball courts are needed.

Five ideas are proposed:

– To include both uses on the same piece of land;
– Provision of recreational facilities preferred: shortage of recreational of recreational/sports and open space facilities in the area;
– Residents’ expectation: residents in the area, including the residents of Classical Garden to have an indoor recreational centre, i.e. basketball court and volleyball court and open space in the area;
– Minimize wall effect and air ventilation will not be affected;
– Need for community facilities in future: the increasing amount of elderly population will need such facilities.

At the same time, “N“ means adopting to the future needs of the users; flexibility; model for the future and infinite possibilities.
