Tsuen Wan is one of the oldest new towns in Hong Kong. In the past, the pipes were made of iron. They easily rust without proper maintenance. Thanks to our ignorance, the water pipe leakage problem has already become one of the most serious environmental problems in Tsuen Wan.
On the street in Tsuen Wan, we can see the seepage problem happening in many buildings. There are many consequences. First, no one wants to walk on a street that is full of pipe leakage problems. It may tarnish the fame of this new town. Even worse, it would also bring hygiene problems, as it creates a natural reservoir for many bacteria and viruses, for example Legionella.
In order to raise people’s awareness of this problem, a campaign, which consists of two components, are proposed. The first one is a sticker promotion. The second one is to paint pipes with an eye-catching colour. For the former one, when people see leakage, they can put on stickers there to draw others and the responsible government department’s attention, so the property holders should face and treat the problem. The later one is painting the pipes a bright colour, such as red. It makes them similar to our blood vessels. By doing that, the public can know that water seepage should be repaired, just like repairing our damaged blood vessels.
