Tseun Kwan O: Nachhaltigkeit

Nachhaltigkeit is a German word, meaning sustainability, which suits our project’s topic perfectly. The concept of sustainability originated in Germany, where advanced technology can be found.
Technology is always regarded as one of the most efficient ways to improve human life and contribute to human well-being. It is not difficult to observe, as many new gadgets originate from Germany as well.
Our project is focused on south Tseung Kwan O, which includes LOHAS Park, the current landfill site and industrial estate. The problem here is that the landfill is running out of space, inefficient industrial area, and the incoherence between the residential area and the landfill site as well as the industrial area. The potential of this place is that some high tech firms like Google, started to move into the industrial area; second, there is plenty of unbuilt flat land; third, Tseung Kwan O is next to the sea with which we can have plenty sea water supply.
Our plan is the following: first, build an incinerator, at the time when the landfill site is full, the incinerator can then handle the waste. Second, reconstruct the industrial area to make it a R&D center (like Silicon Valley, but for sustainability). Part of it will be producing and researching algae bio-fuel, which needs a large amount of sea water to produce fuel. Third, reconstruct the landfill site into “Eco-Park”; this park is an educational theme park about environmental issues and sustainability, right next to the R&D centre and LOHAS Park.
It is expected that this project will be done within 15 years, and become a world-famous example within 40 years.
