Authors. LEUNG Kwan To Ivan, CHEUNG Yuk Ki Judy, WONG Cho Kwan Kimmy

ParknBike is an underground bicycle parking space which is designed for to substitute the chaotic bike parking area in Sha Tin. This machine is aimed at solving the existing physical problems concerning the storage of bikes, such as thieving, destroying, weather conditions and limited parking capacity. In the long term, ParknBike is promoting a culture of using bicycles as daily transport instead of entertainment.

ParknBike is comprised of layers of platforms for storing bicycles and a bicycle-use elevators to move the bicycles between the ground and the parking lot. Each ParknBike is 25m deep with 3m radius, each layer can hold 18 bicycles and the maximum capacity is about 400 bikes. The bicycles are stored in zig-zag pattern to make use of the gap between the bikes and to maximize the capacity of storage.

ParknBike could be installed in each MTR station and in some high density residential areas. With a user-friendly, convenient and secure design, we hope that more people can own a bike and use it more often. In the future, bicycles will be so common, that it will become our daily transport.
