Collective Impacts
Community- “a group that is organized around common values and is attributed with social cohesion within a shared geographical location, generally in social units larger than a household” (“Risk Society: Towards a New Modernity” U.Beck, 1992).
If communities are to be sustained, they must be built into the development equation. Who are we developing for? What role do they have in sustaining the development? Community consultation and participation are key to community buy-in, acceptance of the development proposal. They will be the custodians, its habitants, the end users.
An increasingly common response is for the community to come together to take charge of its own afairs in a “bottom up”approach.
Although it is difficult to conceive that our own, individual decisions will make a significant impact, in unison many small changes and initiatives can have substantial effect. The assignments in the course explore this topic.
