WHY?
Thesis title:
Urban Safari: A Balanced City
Empowering of Nature: Planning Urban Systems that Work with Nature.
Thesis statement:
The focus of humanity has slowly shifted from biological evolution to socio-cultural
revolution. Yet in spite of all our inventions, convenience appears to have turned its
back on us, with cities indulged in traffic congestion, urban sprawl, air pollution,
inaccessible shops & services, noise pollution and a host of other daily
inconveniences. Very often, these problems are the result of bad planning.
In the architecture of Hong Kong today, as one of the most densely populated places
in the world, Hong Kong has adapted its architecture to accommodate the masses,
building inhabitable spaces high into the sky. The result is that architecture becomes
a container that has been criticized detaching human mind from architectural
perception and isolating people from each other. Otherwise, look for the human living
environment; it is often thought to be separate from nature. The human race used to
maintain a balance with nature. But for the last two centuries, emphasis has switched
to an expansion of area and infrastructure, leaving behind the standards of human
existence, our natural behaviour and basic living values.
The nature of cities by exploring the facets of an urban Eco criticism, by reminding
city dwellers of their place in ecosystems, and by emphasizing the importance of this
connection in understanding urban life and culture. Discover the reconceive nature
and its cultural representations in ways that contribute to understanding the
contemporary cityscape.

Annotated bibliography/precedents
How do we keep a balance between an urban and natural environment?
The soil from factories carry mud to fresh water, causing the waters to be dirty, as
man cannot maintain a balance between economic and urban environment and
cause this to happen…
Move the natural environment into the city, move the birds into the building, move
wildlife into the urban…
By working on the nature of management system, animals of management and clime
change in the Hong Kong, the proposal is try to produce a new system in the city:
urban safari. The main concept is to create a new habitat to raise wildlife within the
city or new natural environment for urban wildlife living, as an organic plate or factory
on the top of city.
What can we learn form nature? Nature can teach us about systems, materials and
structures, I think the key of nature in architecture: Nature as organic, nature as
environment
Organic as system,
Human use it,
Environment as space,
Human living with it.
