From July 13 to 18, 2026, the 31st International Symposium on Construction Management and Real Estate Development (CRIOCM2026) was successfully held at Western Sydney University in Sydney, Australia. The symposium was organized by the Chinese Research Institute of Construction Management (CRIOCM), hosted by Western Sydney University, and co-organized by the ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre for the Lifecycle of Net-Zero Built Ecosystems (NOBEL) and the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB). This symposium attracted more than 300 experts and scholars from over 80 universities and research institutions across 14 countries and regions worldwide.<\/p>\n

The opening ceremony of the symposium was chaired by Professor Swapan Saha of Western Sydney University. At the opening ceremony, Aunty Jean, as an Indigenous Elder (Elder in Residence), first delivered a traditional Welcome to Country. This was followed by addresses from Professor Swapan Saha, Professor Shen Liyin (Founding President of CRIOCM), and Professor Ye Gui (current Chair of CRIOCM).<\/p>\n
In the keynote speech session, presentations were delivered by George Maltabarow, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering; Professor Mike Kagioglou, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of De Montfort University, UK; Professor Wei-Sheng Lu of The University of Hong Kong; Waco Tao, Executive Chairman of the Australian Prefab Council; Distinguished Professor Sujeeva Setunge of RMIT University; Professor Dongping Fang of Tsinghua University; Professor Marc Aurel Schnabel of Xi\u2019an Jiaotong-Liverpool University; Professor Yuzhe Wu of Zhejiang University; Davina Rooney, Chief Executive Officer of the Green Building Council of Australia; and Professor Yi Peng of Nanjing University. The presentations covered topics including net-zero transition, digital twins, building digitalization, circular construction, carbon-positive infrastructure, construction safety culture, design intelligence, and urban green governance.<\/p>\n

The closing ceremony of the conference was chaired by Professor Dezhi Li of Southeast University. Following rigorous review by the conference Academic Committee, 2 papers were awarded the Best Paper Award, 13 papers received the Outstanding Paper Award, and 23 papers were granted the Merit Paper Award.<\/p>\n
Professor Ye Gui, the current Chair of CRIOCM, announced that the next CRIOCM 2027 will be jointly organized by Macau University of Science and Technology and the China Green Building and Energy Conservation (Macao) Association. Subsequently, Professor Dong Yahong, Director of the Macao Institute of Green and Net-Zero Technologies at Macau University of Science and Technology, delivered a welcome address. Mr. Li Jiaxing, President of the China Green Building and Energy Conservation (Macao) Association, gave a welcome speech via video, and a conference flag handover ceremony was held. Distinguished Professor Vivian Tam of Western Sydney University, Chair of this conference, delivered the closing remarks.<\/p>\n
