Dr. Tongping Hao

Post-doctoral Fellow, Department of Urban Planning and Design

Dr Tongping Hao is now a Post-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Urban Planning and Design at the University of Hong Kong. Her research expertise lies in urban simulation at the neighborhood and street scale, design optimization and urban data analytics. She is working on research projects concerning modeling urban microclimate, optimizing heat-resilient design, and investigating human behavior under thermal variations. She has developed a simulation-based design optimization framework and utilized machine learning algorithms in order to enhance the integration of digital technologies in support of planning and design decisions with urban cooling as a goal.

Tongping is a certified planner in China, a BEAM professional, LEED & WELL accredited professional. Before her PhD, Tongping was a green building engineer in Hong Kong and consulted sustainable environmental design projects in the Great Bay Area, collaborating with international design companies, developers, and government institutes.
