City Planning Forum: Taipei Challenge: New Planning initiatives

The City Planning Forum series in 2012 is one of the Centenary celebration activities of the University of Hong Kong in celebration of its 100th Anniversary. It aims to provide a forum for the professionals and public in Hong Kong to find out more about the development and planning of other cities in Asia and the world and discuss what lessons can be learnt for the benefits of Hong Kong’s future planning and development.

You and your reporters are cordially invited to attend the City Planning Forum – Taipei Challenge: New Planning Initiatives (城市規劃論壇 – 台北城市規劃的新挑戰) organized by the Centre of Urban Studies and Urban Planning (城市研究及城市規劃中心) of the University of Hong Kong that will be held from 10:45 am to 12:15 pm on 7 January 2012, Saturday, in Rayson Huang Theatre, Runme Shaw Building at the University of Hong Kong.

Prof. John Chien-yuan Lin (林建元教授), Former Deputy Mayor of Taipei and Professor of the Graduate Institute of Building and Planning, National Taiwan University will give a public lecture on “Taipei Challenges: New Planning Initiatives”. In his public lecture, he will discuss the challenges that Taipei are facing in terms of physical, economic, social and political developments and how it addresses social conflicts and satisfies social expectations by new planning initiatives. This will be followed by discussion from Dr. Roger Chan, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, the University of Hong Kong; Dr. Peter Cookson Smith, President of the Hong Kong Institute of Planners; and Mr. K. K. Ling, Deputy Director of the Planning Department, HKSAR Government.
