Abstract:
Faced with the challenge of the rapid growth of aging population, it is essential for the planners and decision makers to get a better understanding on how built environments influences the elderly’s life, and the performance of the current public facilities. The ongoing research has been conducted in Shanghai since 2008, in which two different methods have been applied: 1) field survey of built environment based on community typology; 2) outdoor activity study of aged residents by GPS tracking.

About the Speaker:
YU Yifan
is professor of Urban Planning Department in Tongji University, research fellow of University of Paris-Sorbonne. She is founder and director of Aging City Lab, vice president of Shanghai Urban Planning Association, as well as National Building Code committee member of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. YU Yifan obtained the Ph.D from EHESS in Paris on 2003, and was visiting scholar at Harvard University during 2013-2014. Her practice and research are mainly in the field of housing, healthy city and age-friendly city.
