Abstract:
The presentation will discuss emergent urban practices in the reshaping and remaking of cities in the light of the rapid development process in China. It poses the question of how future practice will contribute to sustainable urbanism in mainland China and Hong Kong. How do we, as planners and designers, intervene in areas that are already built out or, alternatively, growing too rapidly for controlled growth? How is green, intelligent design changing planning practice in Hong Kong? To what extent can cities be “reshaped” and “remade”?.
About the Speaker:
Christopher Law is a Founding Director of the Oval Partnership. He is also a Director of INTEGER Intelligent and Green Ltd., a subsidiary of the Oval partnership, which designs and promotes intelligent and green developments in the UK and in Greater China. Christopher studied at Stonyhurst College in Lancashire and at the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London. Over the years Christopher has received numerous accolades including Architects of the Year Award and the Outstanding Young Person Award in Hong Kong. Christopher Law’s design projects have received awards from institutions around the world including the Royal Institute of British Architects, the Royal Academy of Arts, the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Hong Kong Institute of Planners, and the American Institute of Architects.
