3 December 2016, Saturday

Rm. 820, Knowles Building

China has experienced phenomenal urbanization and urban development at a scale and speed unprecedented in human history since economic reforms and open-door policy in 1978. Mega-city regions are playing important roles in this socio-economic and urban transformation. Ten mega-city regions in China, including Jing-Jin-Ji (Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei) region, the Pearl River Delta and the Yangtze River Delta, although accounted for only 11% of the total land area, possessed 39% of the population and over 60% of the GDP.  Prominent scholars from Mainland China and Hong Kong will examine different issues of economic and social development, environment, planning, and governance of mega-city regions in China in this Symposium.
