WHAT?
Establish Rural Eco-tourism System, Design Floatable Archtecture, Advocate Cuan Culture
I will make full use of local rich tourism resources and unique Cuan culture, and recover abandoned and neglected waterways to establish rural eco-tourism system which has the long-term significance. In the short term, I will use Bai shui tang site from the system to explore the potential for a cultural floatable architecture in the context of a rural village. It not only can float on the main waterways but also stay in a fixed public place. It may be floating theater, museum, gallery, calligraphy pavilion, or cafe, etc. This thesis will examine the tension between fluidity of media and the permanence of architecture.
WHY?
Carry Cuan Culture Forward, Improve Built Environment, Attract More Tourists, Reduce Social Problems
Lu Liang, a small city in Yunnan, has huge natural resources and unique cuan culture, but these resources are scattered and unorganized. Many local people prefer to build European style or neo-classical style houses when they make enough money. It’s a kind of inferiority complex for their own culture. In fact, they could make use of their own valuable resources to re-activate the value of native land. It could improve the local environment and spread local culture, even improve their confidence about their own culture. Besides, it could spawn a series of other profit in nature, such as entertainment in farmhouse, local handmade production and other special production. Meanwhile, it can retain more people work in their hometown, and reduce the left-behind children, elderly and other social problems.
HOW?
The Thesis Will Follow A Research – Summary – System Building – Design Process.
1 Research on cuan culture, cultural space, local materials, related projects , etc.
2 Along with research, summarize the typical methods of reinterpreting cuan culture.
3 The 3rd part of the process would be building the new system based on the previous research, a new framework of space experience.
4 The final part would be the design part, which would be one point of the new system map, and be an application of the whole research process.
