Announcement and Call for Abstracts

You are cordially invited to submit abstracts for the Joint CIB W099 and TG59 International Safety, Health, and People in Construction Conference, which will be held in the city of Salvador in Brazil from the 1st to 3rd of August 2018. The theme of the conference that will be co-hosted by the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) is ‘Coping with the Complexity of Safety, Health, and Wellbeing in Construction’. Construction projects are complex socio-technical systems, and thus the safety, health, and wellbeing of workers are always subject to some degree of uncertainty, and the resulting need for filling out the gaps in planning and design. The conference theme aims at encouraging attendees to appreciate the complex nature of construction across the several
W099 and TG59 sub-themes.

Abstract Submission

When submitting the abstract, authors must select a submission type: full paper (oral presentation) or poster. Please note that some full papers may be eventually presented only as posters depending on the reviewers´ recommendation and on the availability of slots in the technical sessions. Concerning posters, these must be submitted only as abstracts (according
to the structure mentioned below), which will also appear in the conference proceedings.

  • Full paper submission: 1 Feb 2018 – 31st Mar 2018
  • Full paper review back to authors: 15 May 2018
  • Submission of final full papers: 10 Jun 2018

Structure of Abstracts

Authors are invited to submit abstracts in English of not more than 250 words by not later than the 15th of January 2018. To produce a structured abstract, please complete the six following fields relative to the paper: purpose; design; findings; limitations; originality; and practical implications. Each abstract should indicate the topic of the conference the proposed paper will address (W99 or TG59), and the name and full contact details of the authors to be contacted concerning the paper.
