REPORT ON THE HKU CIB STUDENT CHAPTER RPg WELCOME PARTY HELD ON 23 SEPTEMBER 2017 IN ROOM KB 526, KNOWLES BUILDING.
Introduction
As part of garnering support for the proposed activirties of the HKU CIB Student Chapter, a social event, dubbed ‘RPg Welcome Party 2017’ was organised on 23 September 2017. This report covers the planning and execution of the above-mentioned event organised by the Organising Committee under the auspices of the HKU CIB Student Chapter.
Organisation
The Welcome Party was conceived and executed by the Organising Committee of the HKU CIB Student Chapter, under the leadership of Kwadwo Oti-Sarpong (Student Chapter Vice President). The members of the committee are: Jing Wang (Student Chapter Chief Project Coordinator), Yvaine Yafan Fu (Student Chapter Chief Project Coordinator), Chen Bing (Student Project Coordinator). We received immense support from the President of the Student Chapter, Miss Sujuan Zhang.
Aim of the event
The event, targeted mainly new RPG students and aimed to:
- Introduce new RPG students to each other and to continuing students.
- Promote inter-student interactions, academic exchange and sharing ofexperiences.
- Developasenseofbelongingamongthestudentbody.
- Establishacultureofsupportandcordialitythatstudentsmayhopefullydrawuponin future, in times of stress or duress during their academic journey.
Format and rundown of event
The event ran from 7:00pm to 10:00pm in KB526 on Saturday 23rd September, 2017. The Student Chapter President gave a brief opening talk, sharing with those present about the intentions of the student chapter, and called on all present to contribute to the development and outreach of the chapter. This was followed by series of interactive self-introductions to promote camaraderie among attendees. Finger foods, fruits and drinks were served in the continuing half of the event, giving attendees the chance to mix and mingle with others and make new acquaintances. Pictures from previous events were also shown as slideshow to attendees.
Attendance
The party was patronised by about 20 RPgs, about a third of whom were first year RPgs, and one Post-Doctoral Fellow from the Department of Real Estate and Construction. We will continue to work towards encouraging more RPgs to attend social events in the future.
