Plan for 2020-21

The Major Achievements and Future Plans of The University of Hong Kong CIB Student Chapter from 2020 to 2021

The President Liu Sibei of CIBHKU, set three prior goals, namely:

1)          Linkage among the Department of Architecture, Real Estate and Construction, as well as Urban Planning and Design in the Faculty of Architecture, HKU
2)          Collaborative internationally research, and
3)          A series of globally research sharing session

Key matters organized included:

  • The Online Research Postgraduates (RPGs) Welcome Party 2020!

To help new RPGs better blend in with continuing students and set out new academic life, this event aimed to provide an opportunity which new RPGs can meet and exchange ideas with faculty professors and interdepartmental students in an informal and relaxed manner.

 

 

  • CIB Young Scholars’ Research Efforts Sharing Session on 30 October 2020

CIB HKU Student Chapter invited extraordinary young scholars internationally to share their latest research efforts. Dr. Thilini Jayawickrama and Dr. Chao Chen in the fields of sustainable construction and computer-aided building engineering were invited to present their research outcomes and experience via an online meeting.

 

 

  • CIBHKU Seminar of Advanced Built Environment Technology on 28 Dec 2020

We invited both excellent young assistant professors from PSU and HKU to give a sharp and latest research sharing to our RPG students in the popular and hot topic of advanced built environment technology. They introduced how they designed, conducted and validated their research, difficulties they faced and how they were overcome.

 

 

  • CIB Sebestyén Future Leaders Award

A four RPG students research group was established based on their similar research ideas and great willing to do some interesting studies regarding the built environment under COVID-19. During 1-month-discussion, meetings, info collection and studying, a final comprehensive proposal was written up and submitted to CIB board.

 

 

  • RPG Graduates Experience Sharing Forum

Three excellent RPG graduates from three departments in the Faculty of Architecture respectively were invited to give an experience and thoughts sharing on the topics of the current research, the useful oral exam skills and the deep insights about philosophy in research.

 

 

 

Summary of future plan 2021-2022 included: 

  • Student Chapters funding and awards 2021. The collaborative funding application with other CIB student chapters led by the RMIT CIB student chapter have both been launched and will keep following.
  • Research sharing of newly come professors in the faculty, HKU. CIBHKU serves as a platform to promote a better understanding between our professors and RPG students on both their research ideas and their teaching.
  • Job hunting or research experience sharing of early career researchers. A series of seminars will be organized to help equipping our current RPG students with necessary career related skills both on their goal establishment and horizon expanding.
  • The proposal completion for the CIB Sebestyén Future Leaders Award (If we were winners). If our proposal wins the award, we will need to implement our 2nd research stage to finalize our research outcomes.
  • Leadership transition board meetings in 2021. In June 2021, chapter meeting for leadership transition to next generation will be conducted to decide the new committee structure of CIBHKU.

We greatly appreciate all the Chapter members and advisors for their joining, supporting and hard working in driving forward the above activities and plans.
