The Major Achievements and Plans of The University of Hong Kong CIB Student Chapter from 2021 to 2022

 

The President Ting Wang of CIBHKU, set three prior goals, namely:

1)          Linkage among the Department of Architecture, Real Estate and Construction, as well as Urban Planning and Design in the Faculty of Architecture, HKU

2)          Finish two collaborative internationally research

3)          Organize a series of globally research sharing session

3)          Brand building with specific focus on Chinese Users

Key events organized included:

  • Wechat Public Account Creation

This year, the major brand-building achievements are the re-construction of CIB-HKU WeChat public account. Currently, Wechat is the most popular social media among Hong Kong and mainland China students. Our account has become a crucial platform to circulate academic seminars and student events at the faculty of architecture HKU and beyond.

   

 

  • HKU Research Postgraduates (RPGs) Welcome Party 2021!

To help new RPGs better blend in with continuing students and set out new academic life, this event aimed to provide an opportunity which new RPGs can meet and exchange ideas with faculty professors and interdepartmental students in an informal and relaxed manner.

 

  • Scholar seminar on blockchain technology and green building life cycle analysis

HKU-CIB held their first academic event for the year 2021-2022 on 2nd December 2021 with two invited speakers; Prof. Wilson Lu from the University of Hong Kong and Dr. Chethana Illankoon from the University of New South Wales (UNSW). The seminar was conducted in hybrid mode, attendees were present physically and many joined via Zoom.

 

  • 2022 Lunar New Year Workshop

CIB hosted the first activity, Lunar New Year Workshop, to celebrate the Chinese New Year of Tiger on January 28th, strictly following the pandemic protocols of the University that attendees all wore masks throughout the workshop. During the pandemic, CIB still strives to offer more to our members safely and engagingly. Here are some glimpses of this New Year gathering!

 

  • CIBSC Collaborative Study of PhD Training and Employability in Built Environment

It is a joint research project collaborated by 6 world leading Universities, includes The University of Hong Kong (Faculty of Architecture) , RMIT University (School of Property Construction and Project Management), Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Department of Building and Real Estate), Massey University (School of Built Environment), Tsinghua University (School of Civil Engineering), and Western Sydney University (School of Built Environment). The project has received a funding support from CIB commission. 30 Survey interviews have been conducted by several memebers of CIB-HKU, includes Ting Wang, Mengtian Yin, Moyun Zhou, Damithri Gayashini, Sibei Liu, Xinhui Chen, Xiang Zhang. Interview target on five different types of stakehoders in the HDR training in Built Environment , includes

  1. PhD candidates and freshly graduated PhD candidates working in the academia
  2. Supervisors for PhD candidates
  3. Potential employers in academia
  4. Potential employers in AEC industry
  5. PhD graduates working in the AEC industry

This project’s results will also contribute to the industry and academic workshop events planned for the WBC 2022. The students’ expectations and demands will be used to inspire future employers’ discussions from both building industry companies and higher education institutes.

 

  • CIB Sebestyén Future Leaders Award

A four RPG students research group was established based on their similar research ideas and great willing to do some interesting studies regarding the built environment under COVID-19. During 1-month-discussion, meetings, info collection and studying, a final comprehensive proposal was written up and submitted to CIB board.
