Echo
Our land art consists of two stone walls with different materials and scale. They have a similar curved shape with the cliff as to produce echo with the cliff. The larger wall is made up of concrete. We want to create a void between the concrete wall and the cliff, which it is like an extension from the cliff and the void in between is the original mountain.
Concrete is the formation material of the quarry activities and it symbolizes the process of urbanization. In a sense, we hope to show nature is demolished to fit human’s need. Opposite to the concrete wall is a smaller wall made up of the original rocks found on site. It creates a void within the original void with the concrete wall.
The location of the site marks the imaginary end of the now disappeared mountain. Through recreating a miniature shape of the cliff on that point, we aim to recreate and visualize the original mountain and make people focus on the emptiness in between.
