Shadow
The site offers a particularly large diversity of landscapes. One aspect is the series of shadows that different structure, topography, and vegetation on site are casting on to the open ground. In this project, to start with, students are expected to understand the definition and attributes of shadow. Shadow can be viewed from different perspectives and can be recorded by different media. For example, shadow can be defined as an area where direct light from a light source cannot reach due to obstruction by an object; it also can be regarded as a volume of space in shade, in which the physical shape of it can be of manipulation by artistic interpretation. The ways to record shadow can be different. People record it with film/ video, with time to show the change of it in a day and in different seasons; some use paintings to capture a shadow at one moment; or others use volume/space to express a touchable shadow. Generally, the students were required to use different ways to experiment and express different understandings of shadow on site.
Grassy Fish
The requiem of fishes pays tribute to the fishing industry and the marine ecology in Lei Yue Mun. In the past, the fishing industry had the most prosperous period, as though living fishes in water, yet it is now obsolete as the seafood restaurants imported fishes from other areas. And the fishing industry will cease to exist very soon. The dry grass making the fishes we created is like monuments in the site. We seize the prosperous days in Lei Yue Mun fishing industry.
