The buildingSMART is the worldwide industry body driving the digital transformation of the built asset industry. It is committed to delivering improvement by the creation and adoption of open, international standards and solutions for infrastructure and buildings. CIB W78 draws the top researchers internationally to focus on IT innovations and challenges for industry and draws a vibrant, strong academic community which encourages graduate students to join in and ensure their impact in the field. Prof. Lu and the team in iLab joined the Summit in Beijing 2019 and was inspired by the Award programme. He then won the first ever big award (professional research category) for Hong Kong. Thereafter, Hong Kong organizations, like MTR, government departments and big construction companies were inspired to start to win the buildingSMART international awards every year.
