Dean’s Welcome Message

The Faculty of Architecture, founded in 1950, is celebrating its 60th Anniversary this coming September. To celebrate this important occasion, a Forum and Dinner will be held on Saturday, 25 September 2010.

The development of the Faculty has paralleled the vibrant growth of Hong Kong, especially after World War II. The skyline of Hong Kong today is a major product of the Faculty’s graduates and is dominated by projects handled by them.

Founded as a Department of Architecture, the first five-year Degree of Bachelor of Architecture was awarded in 1955 and included five male and four female students. Today the Faculty has more than 1,000 students enrolled in its various undergraduate and post-graduate programs. The Faculty has an impressive list of more than 50 academic staff in its various departments.

The Faculty of Architecture also operates programs in Shanghai, at our Shanghai Study Centre, which is a vital counterpart to other programs in Hong Kong. Our goal is that every undergraduate in the Department of Architecture Landscape Architecture and REC spends one complete semester of their studies in China, without interrupting their degree program.

To continue with our efforts to raise our Faculty’s standing to international standards, we need financial support. I invite you to join our fundraising efforts so as to provide better education to our students.

I look forward to meeting you at the Forum and the Dinner on 25 September, 2010.
