Contributing to the Built Environment – A Surveyor’s Journey

THE SPEAKER
Sr Nicholas Brooke is the Chairman of Professional Property Services Limited which is a specialist consultancy, based in Hong Kong, providing a selected range of advisory services across the Asia Pacific Region. He is involved with a series of initiatives designed to improve the quality of life in Hong Kong and to enhance the built environment for the benefit of future generations. Sr Brooke was elected as the Asia Pacific Chairman of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), of which he is also a Lifetime Trustee. ULI’s mission is to provide leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide.
Sr Brooke is also a keen advocate of the importance of innovation and technology here in Hong Kong. He led the development of all three phases of Hong Kong Science Park until he stepped down as Chairman in June 2014. He also is the Principal Advisor to the APEC Policy Partnership on Science, Technology and Innovation (PPSTI) which provides guidance to APEC and its 21 member economies.
Sr Brooke is the immediate past Chairman of the Hong Kong Harbourfront Commission, the role of which is to co-ordinate the planning, design, implementation and management of the various initiatives around Victoria Harbour and intends to continue his interest in improving the waterfront through a new organisation “Friends of Victoria Harbour”. Sr Brooke has served on the Hong Kong Town Planning Board and the Hong Kong Housing Authority.
Recognizing his contributions to Hong Kong where he has lived in the past 40 years, the HKSAR Government has honored Sr Brooke a Justice of the Peace (JP), a Silver Bauhinia Star (SBS) in 2012 and a Gold Bauhinia Star (GBS) on 1 July 2018.

Nicholas Brooke who was recently awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star for his services to Hong Kong, will share his unusual professional background, the projects and initiatives with which he has been involved over the last 40 years and the motivations that have led to him becoming a champion for the improvement in the quality of life in Hong Kong for the benefit of future generations.
