The Career Discovery in Landscape Architecture starts bringing together new faces, diverse ideas, and an abundance of enthusiasm. Therefore, on the first day, students take time to get to know each other, discover ideas and thoughts about the importance of nature, and learn from their peers. Finally, students explore The University of Hong Kong’s campus by sketching and capturing natural elements surrounding both the old and new buildings.
Sharing Session 1: #Hashtag
Students working in pairs respond to the question: Why is nature important to you? Each student comes up with one keyword (hashtag) that best describes his or her peer’s answer and shares it with the whole class.
Workshop 1: Closing-up to Opening-up
Closing-up to opening-up: Drawing, sketching techniques, and basic methods for documenting nature through photography are learned during this workshop. From analog to digital techniques, the workshop introduces concepts of composition, perspective, and methods for capturing components of nature.
Exploration 1 – Capturing nature
By using the captured close-ups as a starting point, students develop a mixed-media drawing on an A3 panel. At the end of the day, students share their thoughts and feed the question back: Why is nature important to you?
