After learning and expanding the significance of nature and its relationships, students evidence the fundamental role nature plays in achieving a sustainable future. From conservation to restoration, they become familiar with the ecological value of landscapes.

Site visit 4: Wetland Park, Tin Shui Wai

This successful conservation project, originally intended to be an ecological mitigation area, has become a rich habitat for key species in the region and a famous tourist spot for local and foreign tourists. Here, experts in the field narrated the importance of the project and the efforts on the regenerative process for enhancing
biodiversity.

Site visit 5 – Hoi Ha Wan Park, Sai Kung

As part of the country and marine reserves of Hong Kong, Hoi Ha Wan Park is a protected area conserving key coral species. Staff from the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Conservation Department (AFCD) guided an ecotour through the ancient village, mangroves, and coral areas.

Talk 3: Restoration of seagrass along the coast of Hong Kong

Dr. Juan Diego Gaitan and his fellow researchers from the HKU School of Biological Sciences shared their experiences on the restoration of seagrass along the coast of Hong Kong and introduced various types of research methods to students.

Workshop 4: Portfolio making

Students learned to organize, showcase, document, and arrange different types of digital information using Adobe InDesign. With the material collected during their journey, they developed a portfolio for narrating the main learning outcomes and daily experiences from the CDLA.

Talk 4: biodiversity in the Built Environment

Matthew Pryor, DLA member and former head of DLA, gave lecture on the importance of biodiversity in the built environment.

Final Project 1: Site Anaylsis & Design concept development

This was the first session of the CDLA final project. In this session, students brainstormed their ideas and used their acquired knowledge to push the concepts they learned. In groups, they developed physical models and prepared presentations to be shared with a group of experts the next day.
