Module 1: Why is nature important to you?
Module 1
The Career Discovery in Landscape Architecture starts bringing together new faces, diverse ideas and abundance of enthusiasm and positive energy. Therefore, on the first day, students take a time to better know each other, discover ideas and thoughts about the importance of nature and learn from their peers. Finally, students explore The University of Hong Kong’ s campus and learn sketching techniques through an activity led by the architect and artist, Aktin Dreiglo.

WELCOME: Warm Up
#HASHTAG
A warmup talk takes students through the whole CDLA journey. Afterwards, students work in pairs for developing #hashtags.
They respond to the question: “Why is nature imporant to you?”
Each student comes up with one keyword which better describes its peer’s answer and presents to the rest of the class.
Exploration 1
Unfolding Nature with Aktin Dreiglo
Students learn how to record the physical aspects of space. Throughout this activity, students visit distinct spaces of the HKU campus to document ‘natures’ by frottage, outlining, and object collection. Also, they learn how to stamp the collected objects; through their bodies, they learn concepts of proportion and scale.
Finally, students create a large collage delve in aspects related to composition and hierarchy. The graphical elements produced on-site and in class are organized together from the smallest scale to the largest scale mapping the “physical” space in all its diversity – natural and human texture, natural and human patterns, natural objects and human body.
