“Sitting Objects x Landscape Cylinders”
– HKU Landscape Installation

We are taking students to explore how people interact in public spaces.

At HKU Chi Wah Learning Commons Lobby, we designed two Sitting Objects to engage people to sit, lean, and hang out. The cardboard seats are interpretations of the verbs: ‘to twist’ and ‘to bend’. While the verbs are reflected in the seats’ shape, they can also be experienced by the human body.

These Sitting Objects are exhibited with a series of Landscape Cylinders – a collection of aquatic grasses, indoor plants, succulents and cacti planted in acrylic cylinders – to enhance the public space’s experiential quality when visitors rest on our Sitting Objects.

Please be invited to come see our landscape installation:

Summer 2014

CDLA_A3 Banner_1

Organized by the HKU Division of Landscape Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, the “Career Discovery in Landscape Architecture” (CDLA) Summer Program 2014 is taking students to install a 1:1 scale “Playscape” installation at HKU Campus, hoping to bring active participation to public spaces, and to induce new ways of interpreting landscape architecture. They will use Chinese steamers and plant materials to construct a series of installations that visitors can “play” with!

Through the themes of “Sit”, “Lie”, “Step”, “Cave”, “Reach”, and “Pass Through”, students will create play spaces that require visitors to perform the themed action in order to interact with plants selected.

Please be invited to come see our landscape installation! Looking forward to seeing you here!

cdla2013

Organised by the HKU Division of Landscape Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, the “Career Discovery in Landscape Architecture” (CDLA) Summer Program 2013 has created a series of landscape design installations on campus, now on display at the top of the Sun Yat Sen Steps (near the University Bookstore).

Led and guided by tutors and student teaching assistants at the Division of Landscape Architecture, the summer program students designed and installed the project using traditional Chinese steamers (蒸籠) and plants selected for the following seven themes: 1)Vertical, 2) Horizontal, 3) Gradient, 4) Reflective,5) Taste, 6) Smell, 7) Tactile/Texture.

The installations will be on display from now till September 20, 2013.

You are welcome to come take a look, enjoy the space, and celebrate the wonderful design pieces that the summer program students have created!
